Fresh flowers of Woodfordia fruticosa Kurz belongs to family Lythraceae are traditionally used in treatment of pain and inflammation in tribal area of Madhya Pradesh. The main objective of present study was to justify it folklore. After preliminary phytochemical screening various in-vitro and in-vivo test like, antioxidant activity using DPPH radical and superoxide scavenging activity taking ascorbic acid as a standard, acute toxicity study in-vivo studies analgesic activity using hot plate reaction time in rat and acetic acid induced writing test and anti-inflammatory activity by carrageenan-induced paw edema and croton oil-induced ear edema were performed. Results showed that the amount of phenolic and flavonoid compounds in both ethanolic and methanolic extracts was higher that may show antioxidant activity and these antioxidant compounds have same beneficial effect on the pain and inflammation. Result concluded that flower of W. fruticosa have some antioxidant associated analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.
